Based on 889 LD Lines Reviews 5 most recent reviews 9.2
The easiest way to get to France - finish work, get on the 11pm boat and go to sleep in the cabin. Wake up in France and start the holiday! On the return we also had a cabin (very reasonably priced) and had a relaxing journey back. 6.2
Whoever designed and built this ship (Norman Voyager) should go back to building rowing boats - most inconvenient in terms of loading/unloading and limited passenger facilities, albeit that the restaurant provided good service and the cabins (why only 4-berth available?) were spacious. The only saving grace is the cheapness compared to Brittany Ferries. 7.8
Several announcements were made about the marauding and noisy school children running amok around the ship, but nothing seemed actually to be done to stop it. 6.4
Our car was covered in salt from being on top on the outside deck (the weather was rough). The toilets were blocked or out of order Although the ship is 8 years old I'm told the duty free was very small. The facilities were very poor for a ship that's at sea overnight 8.0
We have used LD Lines for years now, but much preferred the other ferry (Normandy Spirit?) with the Dirty Duck bar (and the cafeteria had a lot better food and selection of food) and it was relatively easy to get on and off on the motorbike. On the motorbike, the crossing from Portsmouth to Le Havre was good in that we rode onto the ferry and the motorbike went straight in to special bike clamps, which was good. Also we had a cabin for the first time and that was really good. The return journey was not so simple - we were directed past the empty clamps and down into the bowels of the ferry, down a horrendous steep ramp. We then had to walk up 4 decks of steep steps to get to Deck 5 in full heavy motorcycle clothing, with helmets etc. Then had to do it all again in reverse. Luckily it wasn't raining when we reached Portsmouth or riding the bike up that steep ramp would have been even hairier. Why could the bikes not have been put in the racks? The ferry was fairly empty. Apart from that it was a good trip and LD Lines are better than other ferries we have travelled on. |
